On February 10th, Innogestiona Ambiental participated in the Conference on Habitats of Community Interest Outside the Natura 2000 Network. This event was held in Trujillo (Cáceres) and was organised by the Spanish Association of Environmental Impact Assessment, the Department for Ecological Transition and Sustainability of the Regional Government of Extremadura and sponsored by Capital Energy.
Throughout the morning, different aspects of the problems involved in the inclusion of these listed sites in environmental impact assessment procedures were presented. The points of view of the state and regional administrations, representatives of the scientific community and consultants were presented, with the intervention – among others – of Innogestiona Ambiental. The speakers agreed that there are difficulties, the origin of which lies in the very concept of Habitat of Community Interest and in the official cartography available. They also commented on the differences in the applicable regulations with respect to those available for habitats included in the Natura 2000 Network, as well as the complexity of the necessary field work to verify the state of conservation. The audience was able to corroborate these conclusions during the final colloquium talk, through their experiences as representatives of the administrations, promoters or consultants.
Communication between the agents involved in environmental impact assessment processes is essential in the performance of our work. We congratulate the organisation for promoting this space for participation and dialogue, which seeks to make possible the development of plans and projects with the maximum protection of the environment.
The day ended with an interesting visit to observe cranes on their arrival at a roost. During the wait we were able to continue debating these issues, in the privileged setting of the spectacular sunset in the meadow.
