From February to May 2023, the Provincial Council of Badajoz, (“Diputación de Badajoz”), has developed a pilot action with five secondary schools in Extremadura, whose overall objective was to promote the use of new technologies for the generation of digital resources and for the promotion of heritage. The participating secondary schools were, IES Francisco Vera (Alconchel); IES Eugenio Hermoso (Fregenal de la Sierra); IES Ramón Carande (Jerez de los Caballeros); IES Antonio Nebrija (Zalamea de la Serena); IES Sierra de Montánchez.
Once the submission period was over, a technical committee assessed the works. Although the general level of participation and quality of the works was very high, the school with the best score was IES de Montánchez.
In accordance with the rules of the competition, the prize obtained by the winning school was a visit to the castle of Alburquerque (Extremadura, Spain), which took place on 9 May 2023. The visit agenda consisted of: a welcome reception by representatives of the Provincial Council of Badajoz (promoter and coordinator of the pilot experience); a guided tour by the tour guide of the City Council of Alburquerque, so that the students had a rigorous historical overview; and as a final activity, the development of an escape castle “in search of the lost jewel”, within the castle grounds, managed by the local association IRNOMA, which was included in the agenda as a recreational activity with the intention of helping students to immerse themselves in the history of the castle in a fun way. Once the agenda fisnished, a picnic was offered to all, which was the culmination of the day. A quiet space that allowed the 55 participants to fraternise with each other: 35 students and 2 teachers from IES de Montánchez, 6 students and 3 teachers from IES Castillo de Luna de Alburquerque who were invited as hosts, as well as the coordination and support staff of the event.
