During these conferences, not only are the latest scientific advances in data collection and research presented, but social innovation is also discussed, with the aim of identifying strategic recommendations that favour long-term collaborations and the adoption of new adapted varieties.

Between laboratories and orchards: a visit to the Amarine experimental domain

Because it’s not all about meetings, participants also visited the Amarine experimental domain, a key location for conservation and applied research in fruit trees. There, they learned how the genetic resources of the Prunus genus are managed, as well as about apricot, cherry and rootstock improvement programmes, and enjoyed tasting different apple varieties.

The visit ended with a social dinner, where science and collaboration were combined with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Day 2 in Avignon: diversity of ideas and actors

The second day took place at INRAe in Avignon, where the project partners worked in dynamic groups to explore the diversity of initiatives and experiences that coexist within InnOBreed. Using collaborative tools such as the Business Model Canvas, best practices and innovation models for genetic improvement in organic fruit trees were shared.

A wide range of profiles participated in this exercise:

  • Breeders of new varieties with a market vision (PomaKulta, OON, SERIDA and CEP Innovation).
  • Organisations focused on the conservation of genetic resources (CRA-W, University of Copenhagen and CRSFA).
  • Applied research centres, such as CTIFL, GRAB and BOKU University in Vienna.

This is a sample of the richness and diversity of the consortium, which combines scientific knowledge, tradition and a vision for the future.

With this meeting, InnOBreed reinforces its commitment to sustainability, biodiversity and innovation in the genetic improvement of organic fruit trees, betting on a more resilient and environmentally friendly agricultural future.
