The European LIFE RESIFIRE project held its kick-off meeting in Badajoz on 1 October 2026, marking the official start of the consortium’s activities and providing an opportunity to review the work plan, work packages and first actions to be implemented in the pilot territories.

Under the title “Resilient Periurban strategies for wildfire prevention and climate adaptation”, LIFE RESIFIRE is focused on developing resilient strategies for peri-urban areas, with particular attention to wildfire prevention and climate change adaptation.

The kick-off meeting provided an opportunity for the participating organisations to establish a shared vision of the project, coordinate the different areas of work and define the next steps for implementation. The meeting included a morning session dedicated to the overall presentation of the project and its work packages, followed by an afternoon session focused on the initial status of the pilot sites.

A meeting to coordinate the project’s main areas of work

The morning session began with a welcome and presentation of the agenda by Innogestiona Ambiental, followed by a general overview of LIFE RESIFIRE. The partners responsible for the different work packages then presented the main areas of activity that will structure project implementation.

During the session, USC presented WP2 and WP4, IPB presented WP3, CIM VDL introduced WP5 and the platform that will be further developed within LIFE RESIFIRE, and FUNPASOS presented WP6. Innogestiona Ambiental, meanwhile, presented WP1, WP7 and WP8. Each presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing partners to clarify key aspects and discuss the coordination of future activities.

This first part of the meeting enabled the consortium to review the project structure as a whole and strengthen coordination between the partners before the start of the planned activities.

Portugal, Galicia and Extremadura as pilot territories

The afternoon session focused specifically on the initial status of the pilot sites, a key element in preparing the practical implementation of LIFE RESIFIRE.

First, IPB and CIM VDL presented the Portuguese pilot sites. This was followed by a presentation on the Galician pilot sites by USC, A Carqueixa and AGACAL. Finally, Innogestiona Ambiental and FUNPASOS, together with the other partners involved, presented the pilot sites located in Extremadura.

Sharing the starting conditions and characteristics of these territories will help guide the next stages of the project and support the coordination of actions to be implemented in different territorial contexts.

The meeting concluded with a session devoted to the next steps following the kick-off meeting, establishing the basis for the effective launch and coordination of the project’s activities.

A starting point for LIFE RESIFIRE

The Badajoz meeting represents the first major coordination milestone for the LIFE RESIFIRE consortium and the beginning of a new phase of collaborative work.

From this point onwards, LIFE RESIFIRE will move forward with the implementation of its different work packages and the development of activities in its pilot territories in Portugal, Galicia and Extremadura, creating a common framework for cooperation around wildfire prevention and climate adaptation in peri-urban areas.

With this meeting, LIFE RESIFIRE officially begins its journey, laying the foundations for cooperation among the participating organisations and for the implementation of the actions planned throughout the project.
