On 25 April, Badajoz will host the first Eco-Digithon Spain, a national competition that will bring together vocational training students to develop digital and innovative solutions that respond to local environmental challenges, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event will be attended by Pedro Antonio Pérez Durán, Director General of Vocational Training, Innovation and Educational Inclusion in Extremadura, among other authorities.
In Spain, the event is organised by FPEmpresa and Innogestiona Ambiental, and will be held at the headquarters of FUNDECYT-PCTEx. During the event, teams of students will work intensively to present their technological proposals, which address real environmental challenges.
The award ceremony will be held online on 28 April, when the winning team will be announced. The selected project will represent Spain at the prestigious Social Hackathon Umbria – VIX Edition, to be held in Spello (Italy), sharing the stage with the winners from the other participating countries.
The initiative is part of ENNE+ (Erasmus+), a project co-funded by the European Union that is launching the first national Eco-Digithons in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria throughout 2025. These educational marathons seek to promote sustainability and digital innovation from the ground up, through a collaborative and cross-sector model involving vocational training centres, companies, policy makers, experts and organisations from the surrounding area.
This European experience represents a unique opportunity for young people in vocational training to showcase their skills, connect with an international network and actively contribute to a greener and more inclusive future.
