The recent Advisinar entitled “Food Security, Sovereignty & Resilience: The Role of Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC)” was a resounding success in terms of participation, bringing together nearly 100 attendees interested in the role of short food supply chains in strengthening more resilient and sustainable food systems.
The event, organised as part of the EU4Advice project in collaboration with Corenet, brought together advisers, policy-makers, researchers and professionals from the agri-food sector across various European countries. The session addressed current challenges related to food security and sovereignty, as well as the opportunities offered by Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC) to strengthen local economies and improve resilience in the face of uncertainty.
The advisinar featured the participation of leading international experts who contributed different perspectives:
- Yuna Chiffoleau, who presented the French case and analysed regulations relating to food security and sovereignty as an example of good practice, whilst also highlighting areas for improvement.
- Inés Jordana, who explained how the European Commission currently views the role of short supply chains and their evolution within the context of European policies.
- Alejandro Wonenburger, who discussed the digital tools available to help producers manage and optimise their supply chains.
- Zoltán Dezsény, who reflected on the relationship between short supply chains and urban areas, as well as the challenges of supplying cities through these systems.
- Thomas O’Connor, who shared insights from the production side, highlighting how these models help to strengthen the resilience of local and regional food systems.
The high turnout and the interest generated during the debate confirmed the growing importance of short supply chains as a strategic tool for moving towards food systems that are more sustainable, resilient and connected to local areas.
The organisers would like to thank all attendees for their active participation and invite anyone interested to join the project’s networks of advisors and policy-makers (to stay informed about upcoming advisinars and activities.
